EGO spacer tapes or sealing tapes are ideal for sealing, damping, insulating and creating a soft bearing. Their versatile and varied properties make EGOPREN tapes a long-lasting resource. Our harmless glazing tape is the best spacer for glazing.
In dry and slightly damp environments, the spacer tape is the best and quickest solution for installing glass panes in the corresponding frames. Applications such as greenhouses can also be implemented without any problems using the matching spacer tapes.
Excellently suited as:
We offer two types of spacer tape:
The foamed EGOPREN S is weather-resistant. This single-sided adhesive PE tape is free of plasticisers and enables simple and fast processing without a protective cover. EGOPREN S is suitable for glazing windows, doors, fixed glazing, use in ventilation and air conditioning technology and mechanical engineering.
EGO FIBERFRAX is an adhesive one-sided tape especially designed for areas with increased fire protection requirements. It is not combustible, does not emit smoke gases in case of fire and does not drip when exposed to flame. In addition, no asbestos was used in its manufacture. This tape gets its specific fire-retardant properties from its internal glass fibres. EGO FIBERFRAX meets the strict requirements of DIN 4102-B1 (flame-resistant) and is therefore suitable for flame-resistant glazing. This means that it can be used in combination with EGOSILICON 310 Fire Protection B1.
The spacer tape is used, among other things, as a spacer or spacing for glazing where a subsequent sealant is used. Glass (shatterproof glass, tempered safety glass, float glass), plastics (PMMA, PC) and the frame material (e.g. timber, plastics, aluminium) react to temperature fluctuations with different linear expansions. Due to the different expansion coefficients of the substrates, tensions in the composite must be absorbed or compensated for.
The task of the glazing tape is to ensure that the pane fits tightly, is leak-proof and also remains fixed in the frame without tension. The use of EGO glazing tapes and EGO sealants in conjunction with professional design and application ensures an optimal finish.
As a rule, spacer tapes have adhesive on both sides, i.e. in the glazing rebate and on the glazing strips.
To install, proceed as follows:
PE spacer tapes are somewhat cheaper than the glass fibre versions. However, they are not approved in fire hazard areas. Here, a glass fibre tape is the best choice. It is non-flammable, fireproof and does not release hazardous fumes.
The surfaces to be bonded with the spacer tapes must be dry, free of grease and dust. The adhesion structure of the spacer tapes could otherwise be disturbed and form a surface with favourable conditions for penetrating moisture.
When installing the pane in wooden windows, the short strips are installed first. The longer glass retaining strips are easier to fit into the bevels due to their slight bend.
The thickness of the glazing tape depends on the longest side of the glazing and could look like this:
The cross-sectional dimensions of the glazing tapes must be the same over their entire length. The thickness must be selected in such a way that the required thicknesses of the sealant layers are permanently ensured. According to DIN 18545, the height of the glazing tape must be selected so that there are at least 5 mm high adhesive surfaces of the sealant on the glass and also on the opposite frame for sealing. To comply with these dimensions, the pressure load of the glazing unit on the spacer tape must be taken into account in particular.
Inexpensive spacer tapes from an unknown source can quickly become an expensive nuisance. Saving money at this point is not proportional to the effort involved if the window then starts to leak and you have to remove and reinstall it. You should therefore make use of the first-class brand quality that we offer you with our spacer tapes, among other things. This gives you a long-lasting solution that keeps your panes tight and tension-free in the frame, even under heavy use.
