Frequently asked questions

When do I need CONLOC® cleaner 901?

CONLOC® cleaner 901 can be used as a cleaner and degreaser for all metals, glass and ceramics in the workshop, factory and household. The following applies when using CONLOC UV adhesives: Cleaning of the joint surfaces with CONLOC 901 and then, shortly before adhesion, final cleaning with CONLOC cleaner 902.

What do I need to consider when using CONLOC® cleaner 901?

The flash-off time is approx. 5 minutes.

The quantity of cleaner always depends on the degree of soiling. You need the amount which is needed in order to achieve the appropriate level of cleanliness which is required for the application. The surfaces must be resistant to CONLOC® cleaner 901.

The areas of application can be found in the technical data sheet.

Specific characteristics on the topic of occupational safety, e.g. danger to skin, eyes and mucous membranes can be found in the safety data sheet.

When do I need CONLOC® cleaner 902?

CONLOC® cleaner 902 can be used as a cleaner and degreaser for all metals, plastics, glass, tiles, ceramics and natural stone in the workshop, factory and household. The following applies when using CONLOC UV adhesives: Cleaning of the joint surfaces with CONLOC® 901 and then, shortly before adhesion, final cleaning with CONLOC cleaner 902.

CONLOC® cleaner 901 vs. CONLOC® cleaner 902 vs. EGOVIT® cleaner 100: What’s the difference?

EGOVIT cleaner 100 cleans more intensively and is therefore used for heavier soiling. In contrast to EGOVIT cleaner 100, CONLOC cleaner 901 is a spray.

When do I need EGOVIT® cleaning spray?

EGOVIT® cleaning spray is suitable for use as a cleaner and degreaser for all metals, glass, tiles and ceramics in the workshop, factory and household.

What do you need a primer for?

Primers are used to improve adhesion. They are used when joint seals are under particular stress owing to tension, pressure, shearing, moisture, temperature changes, etc., as well as for porous and absorbent substrates and plastics.

Can I also use adhesives or sealants without a primer?

That depends on the particular sealant or adhesive and the substrate on which you want to use it. Many EGO products bond with many common materials without a primer.

The EGO primer table provides an overview of which primer is used with which EGO product.

What do I need a contact adhesive for?

EGO contact adhesive and EGO contact adhesive LF are primers for EGO butyl sealants. They are used for pre-treatment of porous and non-porous substrate materials for which the adhesion should be increased.

Can I also work without a contact adhesive?

Yes. The EGO primer table provides the relevant overview for this or through independent evaluation of the surface or if the adhesion without primer is too low.

What quantity of EGO contact adhesive do I need?

How much EGO contact adhesive you need depends on what substrate you are dealing with. On average, you need between 150 and 250 millilitres per square metre.

What quantity of EGO contact adhesive LF do I need?

What quantity of EGO contact adhesive LF you need depends on the substrate. In general, approx. 100 to 150 millilitres per square metre is estimated.

EGO contact adhesive vs. EGO contact adhesive LF: What’s the difference?

EGO contact adhesive LF is the solvent-free variant.

What do you use smoothing agents for?

Smoothing agents are used to smooth freshly sprayed on sealant surfaces such as silicone, SMP, PUR, acrylic, etc.

Can’t I just use a household detergent?

EGO smoothing agent standard or EGO stone smoothing agent have the following benefits in comparison with “conventional washing-up liquid”:

  • Minimised risk of staining or yellowing of the sealants
  • Better tolerated by the skin owing to substances from baby cosmetics
  • No leaching of colour pigments out of the silicones
  • Less silicone leaching into the smoothing agent

Which is better: A manual sealing device or one with air pressure?

A manual sealing device is practical for quick and brief use. When there is compressed air on site and many running metres need to be sealed, then an electronic or compressed air-driven device is practical.
